Digital Ageing

Smart phones, PC’s and certain lighting bombard our skin every day with HEV. The increased exposure to blue light causes oxidative stress for cell structures — which is shown by an increased prevalence of free radicals — and can damage protective functions of the skin. In fact, blue light can reach our dermis and meet collagen and elastin, causing damages such as wrinkles, sagging skin and pigmentation.

But what is digital ageing?

Digital ageing is caused by High Frequency Visible Light (HEV) from the sun and our tech devices like smartphones, TV’s and computers. All of these devices emit blue light. An average person would spend over 12 hours in front of a cellular device per day.

So how does it affect our skin?

Well the truth is… it creates premature ageing. If we look at normal ageing skin, also known as genetic or internal ageing and accounts for 5% of how you age, you will start to notice visible lines appearing on the face, the skin becomes thinner and drier, the texture of your skin also becomes more delicate.

In comparison, external / extrinsic ageing accounts for 95% of how we age. Excessive exposure to external factors such as your smart devices increases your skin being affected by HEV, resulting in digital ageing. You may experience more sagging and deeper wrinkles on the face, skin thickness increasing, with a leathery texture and pigmentation.

Why does this happen?

Because HEV penetrates deeper into the skin than UV radiation. It will increase reactive oxygen species or free radicals within the skin and increases the number of deteriorating cells. It slows down your cell regeneration cycle, creating the premature ageing process.

Our hero ingredient in all of our products is called Cyanobacteria — a blue-green algae packed with a power-house of essential functions such as amino acids, vitamins and minerals that are extremely beneficial for the skin — such as reflecting blue light radiation!
